serpentine belt tensioner S70

upon startup, getting some 'battling mice' squeaking from front of engine, that subsides a bit with warmup, but does not go away entirely...suspect serpentine belt tensioner a/o idler pulley the cause of the racket...likely? how hard to change out? change as a set I'm guessin'...thanks all...

You can buy a small thing like a glue stick but that is lube stick. So when engine is running hold it carefully against the belt and it will start to lube the rubber = no more squeaks and squeals

not the belt squeaking, but the bearings in the tensioner/idler making noise...with 104k miles on these original parts, think it's time for a change...

Strange that the bearings are going out so soon, usually 200K or more is normal. Replacement is fairly straight forward, along with the idler pulley and a new belt while you are at it.

Make a stethoscope using a long stick. With the engine idling and making noise, carefully place one end of the stick on the center of the roller, or anything that turns, and the other on the bone next to your ear. You will be able to determine where the noise is coming from.

Watch out for the belt when you do this!

On our '04 V70 it is not a terrible job, a couple hours max. It would have been nice if they had left an extra inch between the engine and the wheel well.

tensioner looks somewhat accessible, but idler a bit more buried...wondering if the 'box'(washer reservoir?) should/can be removed for a bit more access...or remove inner fender shield, as if doing timing belt...
