Thermostat dying? S70

Hi Everyone,
I have a 1999 S70 GLT with 162,000 miles on it. I am wondering if the thermostat or coolant sensor is bad? The temp gauge heats up slowly or normally and then gets stuck at about 4 o clock position. Then it slowly moves up to the 3 o clock position. The problem is that it normally moves up faster. But lately its been slow. In the mornings I can see that car is still cold and warming up slowly. All that exhaust you know.

This happened years ago on my 850. Once the thermostat was removed I found that it was broken resulting in a very slow warmup.

Well I wanted to report back to confirm the results. I put the new thermostat in and did the first drive. It worked perfectly! The new thermostat drove the temp gauge up smoothly without any long pause like the old one. Gas milegage is also better!
Wow, thanks for all who posted.

    I have a 99 V70 that had similar symptoms

Changing the thermostat corrected the problem
It was stuck in the open position

Oh that is good. : ) Thanks for the input.
I just got a new thermostat. I just have to put it and report back to help verify that was the problem.
