Dumb question? V70-XC70 2007

I have an '07 V70 (automatic transmission). Where do I check the ATF? I have to admit, I have not looked this up in the owner's manual (yet) ...

Thanks,

Bernie

the yellow measure is hidden under the air intake squarish hose. Twist and turn the hose from at bottom by rotating it anti-clockwise while twisting it free. then, pull lift the other end of hose free from it's two small plugs under the hose where it sits near the radiator. You can move it easily by lifting and taking. You will see the yellow tab under the hose.

don't loosen any bolts on the top of the transmission housing. You top-up trans. oil by the tube that the measuring stick goes in; you use a thin funnel to gradually pour oil in.

I think the difference between cold and hot on gauge is very slight representing maybe just 1/2 cup of oil. I have always had to re-check again and again and barely get the damned amount right. Leaks when 50cc too much, hardly registers on stick when 100cc too low.

Dumb question? V70-XC70 2007

Is anybody 100% sure that there is an ATF dipstick on an '07 V70? I checked the manual last night, and there is NO mention of it. I also checked in and around the transmission (where a couple of folks have suggested to look). Did Volvo do away with the ATF dipstick?

Thanks,

Bernie

HI. I have a 2007 V70. There is a dipstick for the transmission in the place mentioned. It is hard to find. You may need a flashlight. Yellow colored, on the driver's side down near the bottom of the engine. It is hidden behind a big hose from the radiator, I think.

No dipstick tranny flush V70-XC70 2007

Which engine do you have? Some models do not have ATF dipsticks. they only have drain and fill similar to differentials.

See the link for an XC90: http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/topic/146242-2007-xc90-6-speed-auto-trans-fluid/

No dipstick tranny flush V70-XC70 2007

Thanks all. I finally found the ATF dipstick yesterday - NO MENTION IN THE VOLVO OWNER'S MANUAL, though. After 178K miles, level is OK, color is RED. Any periodic ATF maintenance required?

Bernie

tranny flush V70-XC70 2007

Every 50K miles. The dark red fluid should be bright pink, hard to tell the actual color on the dipstick. There are two methods to flush the tranny: drain the sump and refil several times or flush the system yourself. Do NOT use a machine to flush the tranny! The extra power of the pumping maching destroys the interal pump and lodges dirt in all the wrong places.

Do a search on flushing the tranny, it is quite easy and less than an hour of your time. If you drain the sump, make sure you have some extra aluminum crush washers - the same size as for the oil drain plug.

this has flush procedure. About 5:18 shows image of dipstick

I wouldn't use Mobil 1 ATF. Use the one specified by volvo.

"... I have not looked this up in the owner's manual (yet) ..."

Don't waste your time trying to find it in the owners manual. Volvo doesn't consider it important to tell the owner how to service the ATF. They know it won't become a real problem until after the car is out of warranty - then it's too late.

On our '04 V70 there is a yellow dipstick on top of the front of the transmission. Look on the left side of the car under the radiator hose.
