can't help but notice that in the 8 yrs I've owned my S70, the interior knobs/switches have a 'gummy' feel that absolutely resists cleaning...I don't smoke or eat in car, don't permit others to do so either, and have no kids...is this a Volvo thing? unique to the year?

That's weird. My 855 doesn't do that. Maybe it's an S70/V70 thing? Which year is your car?

it's a '98.....have tried all sorts of cleaners, nothing...

My wife's (then mine) '99 V70 did the same thing. I thought it was from her hand cream.
