Key FOB S80

2009 S80 T6 AWD:

Key FOB question. If my FOB battery is dead will I still be able to start vehicle?

My answer is Yes. Now what's the real answer?

    Yes. The transponder will still work so long as the fob is close enough to the key slot to be read by the security ring/system.

    So, why not change the battery?

      I'll keep an extra battery in glove compartment.
      I travel alot, the thought of no battery juice made me fathered that question.

        Those lithium battery are carried in a lot of stores, RadioShack among them. When the batteries wear out, you will not be able to lock/unlock the doors without the key. These batteries last a very long time, more than 6 years even if used a lot.

        In my newer car, I have a start button. I tend to carry the remote in my back pocket and sit on it. The car gave me a warning that the batteries were weak until I realized that I was blocking the signal with a large layer of fat!! Moving the remote to a front pocket solved the problem.

          I do this all the time with the non-fob key S80

          I have a key that is just a simple key that came with the car in addition to the two fobs and it starts the car and operates the locks all the time
