1995 A/C condenser replacement 850 1995

B.B. has a rock hole in his condenser and needs to replace it. Anyone been there, done that? Special tools, O rings? Pag oil?

He found a real cheap condenser:
http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/shop_parts/a-fs-c_condenser/volvo/850.html
For $57/shipped. A local salvage yard wants to sell him one for $75, from an 850.

B.B. will get a new receiver/dryer.

    Klaus,

B.B. might want to see if he can opt out of e-mails from autopartswarehouse. I got a few suspension parts and a headlignt from them, and then started getting e-mail from them every day. Now, 6 or 7 months later it seems to have tapered off a bit. At least none for the last few days.

      Suspension parts? What parts?
There's an area you might want OEM or better... (IPD?)

How do you rate the quality and durability?

Usually it's easy to opt out of E-mail with a legit company.

      Thanks, Bill

        Bill,

It was one of the links for the anti-sway bar on the front of a 99 V70. I got a Beck Arnley part. The primary reason I got it there was to save on shipping. I needed a headlight for a Honda, and since they had the best price I could find on that, I had them throw in the Volvo link to put me into the free shipping price range. I never tried to opt out of the mail. It was automatically going to my spam box anyway.

        Good luck with the condenser.

        Charley

Personally I would shy away from a cheap condenser, a good used OEM unit is probably better.

I haven't had the misfortune of having to this job on my 850 yet. When I swapped the engine I left the compressor attached to the lines and let it sit on the sub-frame.

O-rings should always get swapped when the system is opened, I'm sure you know that. That said, I have reused them before in A/C jobs (simply due to time constraints and unavailability) and they have been OK. I have a cheap made in china sniffer that I runn over the entire system post work.

The PAG oil debate is always fun. Im not sure there is any correct answer to that but to vacuum the system as much as possible and measure the quantity vs. the manufacturers specs. I typically use an average between the two. Im doing a 134a conversion right now and was shocked that about only 2-3 oz. of oil came out of the compressor when I let it drain for a week!

      Thanks for the input.

I ordered their cheap condenser, a receiver drier and PAG oil
Then searched for a discount coupon and got an additional -5% off
the parts, but not the oil.
The total just under a C-note shipped.

The condenser comes with a 2 year warranty
and they claim is a direct fit

I told Klaus that I'm crossing my fingers.

      Hey, Columbus took a chance.
Everyone can laugh at me when I find out that it's made of
      specially coated cardboard.

      Bill
