Cruise control goes limp V70-XC70 2003

My 2003 XC70 is a great car, however it has one problem. Very occasionally when in cruise control if speed is reduced, engine goes into limp mode. If car is stopped and restarted all is well again.
This has only occurred 4 times (the first while towing a caravan out beyond the black stump) but
worryingly, twice yesterday.
Can anyone shed any light on the glitch?

    If there is an error or warning on the dash, CC will turn off and remain off until the error or warning goes away. This is by design.

      check for broken or cracked wires on the rear hatch drivers side hinge.
