Weird brake problem S70 1998

Got a call from son in law, brake failure while on way to work. Pedal to floor and not much brake action...enough to bring to a stop in a parking lot. My first thoughts are that he blew a brake line. However, after sitting a while he restarted the car and says he now has brakes again. I have not seen this since it happened and only know what has been relayed to me up to this point. Kinda just looking for thoughts on it right now. Thanks in advance.

When we drive, we expect certain braking performance.

If I had this issue, I would have my car towed to my dealer before I rammed someone in the rear.

Binding caliper piston(s) or binding pads can boil the brake fluid (temporarily) can cause what you describe. So can riding the brakes on a long downhill run.

Hey Bruce, Long time no see (740),

How would he lose everything at once at the calipers with twin or multi
brake circuits? It sounds to me that the problem might be at the master cylinder.

Maybe just low on Dot4, and need of bleeding :-)

I'm with the one that says quit driving it until you find the problem.

      Bill
