XC60 - looking to buy. Any trouble areas?

I am looking to buy a used XC60. MY 2011 or 12 fits my budget. I have driven a 2011 T6 and the 3.2 (non-turbo). I liked them both and would probably go for the 3.2 since it is powerful enough for my needs and there will be one less thing to go wrong in the future. I have been shopping around for a mid-sized SUV and, frankly, none come close to the XC60 for safety, ride, handling, comfort, and more. It pushes all the right buttons for me. I know the fuel consumption is nothing to write home about but my current daily ride is a 2005 Toyota Highlander V6 AWD so it won't be worse than that. From what I can gather the inline 6 is a solid engine and I have not heard of issues with the tranny. But like just about any new car, it is a complex electronic beast. And the AWD system is more complex than the Highlander's open diffs. Do I need to bring it back to Volvo for re-programming every time a sensor or whatever needs to be replaced?

I could find nothing on the BrickBoard on owner experience / reliability / trouble spots. Actually, there is not even a tag category! Buy with confidence or avoid?

The XC60 is a pretty good car for 2011+. I agree, the turbo is not needed, and after test driving one I realized it would just get me a speeding ticket or two.

The Haldex AWD system is very reliable. It has its own oil/filter which should be changed every 50K miles or so. The transfer case also needs an oil change at 100K and every 50K there after.

Programming components to match your car? Yes, there are some, but not as bad as it sounds. Most will swap right in and there is no high failure rate as was true for 2001-2002. Amazing the number of computers and fuses!! At least 3 fuse boxes.

Remember, this is an AWD and not 4WD. It is possible to get stuck, but much better drivibility than 4WD. It is not meant to go down the Rubicon trail, it is more a safety feature to keep the car from sliding into a ditch. In fact, getting on a wet skid pad, you can not make the back end slide out.

The only thing I dislike about the XC60 is the poor visibility out the rear and large blind spots. I guess that's why they have BLIS as an option.

Thanks. Very useful info. Yep, I know it is AWD, not 4WD. Ditto for my Highlander. I don't do off road - well not intentionally anyway. AWD works a treat here in Canadian winters and when pulling a trailer up out of my yard when it is sogged with rain. Yes the seats are the best I have found and the rear visibility sucks. My 740 is a greenhouse in comparison.
