When I got 1 and 3 misfire codes it was the fuel pressure sensor. Mine is an 04 non turbo, but I assume the 98 turbo has a FPS? But when I got those 2 misfire codes I felt no noticeable degradation in the engines performance. I also got misfire codes a couple of times in my 98 XC(turbo) when it was very low on gas. I once got a random misfire code on the 04, and that turned out to be a bad coil pack. When that happened the car ran with a very noticeable skip, and wouldn't get up to speed. I wouldn't say it ran rough, but rather with a pronounced skip. I isolated that problem by buying a cheap used coil pack, and replacing it down the line until I found the offending coil pack which had failed.
Is your car skipping when running/driving, or is only running rough at idle? IS it a skip or rough condition(if discernible)? Does it have plenty of gas and is the cap on tight? If very low on gas or cap not on tight, correct that, clear the codes, and see if they come back.
Take a good look at all of the vacuum lines. A severe stop could have jarred the engine around enough to pop off or break already comprised aged vacuum lines. I think vacuum issues will usually throw a different code, but that doesn't mean a vacuum line couldn't cause a "codeless" rough running condition, along with a code caused by another issue. I got my car back from an oil change place once and they managed to knock off several vacuum lines and it caused a noticeable rough running condition.
Also, did the check engine light come on after the hard stop, or was it running rough so you took it in for the code read without the dash light on? They may have found soft misfire codes not tripping the light yet if so...
ODBII code readers are pretty cheap now, and I always carry mine with me in my aging Volvo. It has helped me more times than I can count now...
