transmission solenoid V70-XC70 2002

Hello,
First time on this board. We have a 2002 v70 with 145K miles, that is giving a code for the transmission shifting solenoid. It is slipping at times from second to third when driven for a long time. Short trips seems almost fine. It has been that way pretty much from the first few thousand miles. We have just ordered the sump and screen filter and the pan gasket. But I'm doubtful it will take care of the problem, even if it is long overdue. Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks .............Hood Lifter.

Interesting. There is no sump filter in the AW55-50. There is a filter behind the valve body, but that is a MAJOR pain to replace and will not solve your problem.

I suggest flushing the ATF (3309) using the engine driven pump (not an external machine with high pressure). If the flush doesn't help and you still get the error code, a solenoid cleaning/replacment will be easier than getting a tranny rebuild.

Send the filter and gaskets back, you really don't want to replace them.

      Hello,

The filter or screen in the transmission will be replaced. It has never been done! I will look at the solenoid as well. Flushing did not help, may be cleaning the solenoid will? I'll find out when its all cleaned, and new fluid added

      Guido

Here's one of several videos to flush your tranny fluid.

If it's brown and burned you want to flush it, and make sure it's red.
I used the Walmart full synthetic in two 850's. where there's a different clip
for that tranny plumbing, just get the right clip and o-rings at your dealer.
I didn't drop the pan at all in the 850's.

Some people have had success with solenoid replacements, which is preferred over
tranny replacement. Use the search engines to find the tranny solenoid posts
and videos. I have good luck with www.startpage.com

      Hello,

Fluid has been replaced a few months back. Hard to get it all out though. Pan is coming off and I'll take a peak inside,

      Guido.
