Sunroof mechanism broken, replacement or cross reference source? 850 1995

While I have my wife's headliner out I'm looking into repairing the sunroof. It will move up to the vent position but not retract. Removing the glass I found several of the small nylon (plastic) levers that lift and slide to be broken. Along with the mounts for the narrow tray that slides with the trailing end of the glass.

I'm off to the U-pullit yard today but that's a lot of work to remove a unit that may be broken as well, if I find an 850 (or V70?)

Any sources for used, complete sunroofs, rebuild kits or other means to get this done? Cross reference to other cars?

Thanks.

Sunroof mechanism broken, replacement or cross reference source? 850 1995

U-Pullit comes through. I found another 95 850 with both a sunroof and a passenger's seat in very good condition. Got both for $70 after about an hour's work.

One thing about the sunroof, the car was dated 2/95 and the levers that lift the glass are metal, not nylon as in my wife's car which is dated 7/95. The mfg stickers on the sunroofs showed the same part number so there was a change somewhere along the production run.

This earlier sunroof works very well but the linkage is slightly different. When closing from a retracted position, it doesn't slide forward, lift up, then settle down to the park position like the original which was a few months newer. It simply slides forward and lifts up to the parked position. From that position it lifts to the vent position as it should, then when closing just lowers to close. Different, but it works.

There is also a V70 and another 850 with sunroofs to be had and I would have gone for the 2000 V70's (five years newer) if I knew it was the same model.

Next task, new headliner glued to the board.

Erwin

Up to 2000, the sun roofs were the same, except for more plastic than the 1994/5. What you got is good!

BTW, if you go after a 1998 driver's seat, you will need a T50 to remove the seatbelt. The electrical plugs are a little different but doable. There is a writeup on how to adapt the earlier seatbelt to the 1998 seat. Much nicer butt warmers.

Klaus,

The leather on the 850 passenger seat I pulled hasn't split open but is very hard. Before I put it in the car I have it in the garage where I'm oiling it daily to try and soften it.

Softer seats 850 1995

Erwin,
I have yet to hear of a seat softening up so that it feels good again. Keep us posted on that, there are a few thousand 'hard' seats.

Klaus
