2002 V70 T5 broken timing belt V70-XC70 2002

My timing belt broke on the highway going about 65 mph. Coasted to the shoulder, downshifted until it came to a stop. No body has looked to see what the damage to the valves are. I am aware this has an interference engine so it's likely there was some damage done. At 140k miles what does anyone recommend doing? A whole new engine is probably going to be more than I want to spend. What other options are there besides scrapping it or parting it out?

The 'engine' isn't broken, but at least two of the valves will be bent. Depending on how much you like the T5, it will probably cost close to $800-$1,000 to replace/fix the head. There is an outfit in Florida that refurbishes cylinder heads with new valves, seats, guides, etc - worth looking up.

Also a good time to replace the oil separator and associated hoses. Along with Tbelt, Sbelt, rollers, water pump, tensioner, etc.

If you have a shop do it, expect labor charges in the 8 hour range.

It all depends on what you are willing to spend ultimately. What is the condition of the rest of the car? Used engines are always available, a quick search on ebay will give you a rough idea of the price. Local junkyards are also another good option.
Are you able to preform any of the work yourself or would you need to have a shop do it? You can save a massive amount of money if you have the tools/time/place to undertake an engine swap.
I did one on my 1997 over last winter as a project, and it isn't difficult but requires time, patience, and above all a good, clean place to work.
