How can I reset the service light? 850 1996

I am sure this has probably been brought up on the Brick Board before. But, how can the "do-it-yourselfer" reset the service dash light? Also, while I am at it, what is the mileage that it comes on at?

Thanks in advance,

Chris

You need a scan tool to reset the service light. I used a PC based tool (see http://www.obd-2.com/ ) to reset the service light in my car. I have a 1997 855 GLT. The light is supposed to turn ON after 5K miles for turbo car and 10K for non-turbo.

In the software that I used, you have to first select the tab "STATUS" and then you click on the taskbar on "Enhanced". A menu will pop up asking you if you want to reset the Volvo service light. If you want to reset it, you just have to click on the button "CLEAR".

This procedure is for Alex Pepper software (found at: www.obd-2.com ). The software issue some codes thru the OBD-II bus to the micro located in the intrumentation panel with a command to reset the service light. This procedure work for the 850 that required the service light to be resetted thru the OBD-II port.
