Window Switch Repair S80 2005

Has anyone ever dissected a window switch in order to restore contact within? The wife's S80 has one dead function on the front RH passenger window. I think of it as having four functions - momentary up / full up / momentary down / full down. All functions work except for the momentary up position. All other windows in the car work properly. I haven't taken the door panel off yet, but was just wondering if an internal contact cleaning is even possible.

Hi Chris,

I'm with Klaus, There's no way you can service a messed up switch.
Find another switch at a boneyard or live with it.

So long as the window goes up/down, I wouldn't worry too much about it. The switch is held in the armrest by clips, so it should 'pop' straight up and out, no need to remove the door panel.

The bottom of the switch is sealed and I do not suggest opening it up as there are tiny springs and ball bearings inside. It would be better to find a used/new switch if your wife finds it unbearable.

I saw one in the local PnP today that was a few years older (different P/N) . It's a big "module' that also controls door locks. New = $300+. Ouch. May find it at one of the good Volvo recyclers for about half that.

It's not unbearable, just inconvenient.

Klaus is incorrect. The S80 has a module as you discovered. If you do find a used one, it may or may not communicate with the system in your car. It controls the window, door locks, and mirror. There is also software that must be purchased and loaded if you get a new module. Try rebooting it. the fuse box on the end of the dash, remove the fuse for the passenger door module. Not sure which one, but it should tel you on the cover. Good luck.

About a month ago I pulled the fuse as part of the recalibration process. (It was doing that roll up and then bounce back down thing.) I've done that process several times on both the 05 S80 and my 03 V70, with no ill effects. I'm wondering if that had something to do with the current problem or just coincidence. The wife has the car out of town so I won't be able to get my hands on it for a few more weeks, but when I do I may just try another recalibration to see if that does anything.

On a side note, when Volvo wired up the fuse panel they got the LH and RH front door circuits mixed up. So the fuse map doesn't reflect reality. Not a big deal, just kinda sloppy on their part. It must have been late Friday afternoon at the factory.

Would you happen to know if I get a used switch out of a like 05 S80, would there still be S/W issue? Or is there any tell-tale identification printed on the modules that would allow a successful transfer from one car to another (like on the DIM)?
