Opinions please. FWD 2004-2005 V70 wagon, V70-XC70

I've scanned the threads but would like some concise opinions from long term, 100,000+ mile 2004-2005 V70 owners. Our great little 855T finally lost it's transmission at 216,000 miles and I'm looking at replacement cars and will buy within the next week to 10 days. I'm a total DIY guy, have a garage and many tools. The 855T is just going to sit until daughter gets her license then I'll do something about the trans. Wife needs a newer car.

Thanks,

Erwin

Such fun reading! I guess the Volvo dealer reputation is in the toilet in England also.

I only read some posts for 2003, and was reminded that the control arms were redesigned and too weak. I wonder if the supplier outsourced them to Bangladesh.

Hi Klaus,

I get my OE parts at the Volville Huntington, Long Island. I haven't dealt with the sales or management people yet but the parts guys and mechanics are great there. I have fun when I go there.

I didn't know they had the lower control arm issues. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AVAxfTr9nK4

I see your Amazon on your driveway, what's the other one? 850, right?

Thank you as always.

Volvo claims that they came out with a 'new, improved' control arm a couple of years later. The fact that they can fail completely in less than 150K should have been reported to NHTSB or who ever as a defect.

Those two cars are both fond memories. A 1998 V70R, 1967 220 with overdrive.
