New problem/no start (93 850) 850 1993

Ok, so now my issue is that the car won't start.

As I said in my other thread, I re-did the timing/drive belt, thermostat and water pump.

And now the car doesn't start, and cranks slower than normal.

After checking a plug for spark, and finding one (and no continuity in the wire that goes from the coil to the cap) I replaced the wires, distributor cap and rotor. However, I re-checked for a spark (turned off the lights in the garage, and it was pitch black, so I would be able to see any spark/light), and saw NONE.

Tomorrow I'm going to check the coil directly, and see if I can see a spark.

I did test the coil, and I *think* the ignition coil read .07 OHMS, or maybe it was .7, either way it was above the #'s that I'm fairly certain I read that would signify a working ignition coil (I think it was 0.00-.05, or .0 and .5).

The other options I'm hearing could be an issue are the cam sensor or the ignition control module.

Is there something else I could be missing? The car ran fine before I re-did the timing belt (as I said in the other thread)

    New problem/no start (93 850) update WITH video 850 1993

This is the video (hopefully it works) http://youtu.be/wdZynwjJy3M

If that one doesn't work, this one might. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wdZynwjJy3M

I also have a 2nd video, which I think shows the sound better.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wzvwNPn2AQ

The clicking sound isn't an issue for me (it sounds NO different than it did when I bought it 15K miles ago). It's the other sound that is there, almost lower. I liken it to the sound of a train, chugga chugga or a rapid fire gun.

I'm hoping its something loose, but the videos I've seen online seem to suggest valve damage. :(

    Opinions?

    New problem/no start (93 850) 850 1993

My 93 was stalling at stops, or idle, and was hard to start or no-start for a few minutes. It was the cam position sensor. OB codes were 314 and 324 (missing signal or intermittent signal from the CPS). Easy repair. Check your codes.

Thanks, I'll look into that too.

        hazah!

I checked the OBD (in both 2 AND 6). In 2, no fault codes. In 6? 314!

Not that I'm happy with that fact, but at least it's helpful information!

A dead CPS. Remember, when replacing, to go under the coil lead wire - they must not touch.

I think 314 means the signal is missing - so the ECM won't know when to fire a cylinder. The sensor was upgraded some years ago. Part number 9146108. If yours is original it's most likely dead. Ebay has a Bosch CPS for about $90 with free shipping. Two bolts and the wire plug in is all it takes. Good luck.

            New problem/no start (93 850) 850 1993

Well, I finally got it to start, but it ran poorly/rough.

It still was showing the code error for the camshaft sensor thing, but maybe I didn't clear the codes (?). I checked #2 and it didn't throw any codes

I didn't see if an idiot light came on (I was in the passenger seat).

              New problem/no start (93 850) 850 1993

So I thought I tested the crankshaft sensor, and showed that it wasn't getting any Ohms. So I bought a new one, and decided to check it to see if it read any ohms.

It didn't at first, but then I futzed around with the dial, and changed the #'s that represent the readings (2k, 20k, 200k etc).

This time it read the correct #'s needed (293 or so).

So I decided to check the old one...And even though every time I checked this morning it read 001, this time I got it to read something. 296.

So now I'm not sure whats the deal. Almost makes me think I bent a valve. :(

            New problem/no start (93 850) 850 1993

Looking back, I think it's been slowly dying. This might all be in my head/complete horse crap, but sometimes it was difficult to start, and it was getting harder to start lately. And occasionally at idle, it would stutter like it didn't know to spark.

I can get it locally for about 85 bucks. IPD is located in Portland, and so am I.

However, we're rumored to have a snow event tonight, so who knows when I can get it.

    New problem/no start (93 850) update.. 850 1993

I feel like Robert Stack whenever I say that..

Anyways, I checked the coil itself for spark. It was orange in color, instead of (what I've seen online) white.
