I heard a pop and my driver's door stop/spring stopped working? 850 1995

Can someone tell me what is involved in fixing the door spring? Is it something that I can do myself? What is the approximate cost to have the dealer fix it.

    In my situation, only the bolt that holds the strut plate to the door jamb broke. It was a special bolt only available from the dealership. So I bought several of them for the next time it happens. I remember that it took a large Torx screw driver to get the new one in. But first, a drill and an "ease-out" to get the broken stud out.

    If it is the door strap you may need a shop to cut the door strap from the frame, and have a new one welded on. The crack you heard was the welded craking.

    I had this happen to my 94', 855T not too long ago, and if you were around, I was furious as to the reason it broke.

      Sin,

      The door strap is seperate from the hinge and is bolted in place. No welding involved. If the hinge breaks from the A piller as has been known on 850s, then yes, a new hinge is welded into place.

    Jerry,

    As part of the hinge assembly is a part known as the "door strap". It's likely what you are describing, inexpensive and easy to replace.
