Blown headlamp: Pre 2001 XC redux? V70-XC70 2001

As I remember, the early XC's (and V70s for that matter) often suffered from frequent blown headlamps. My wife's 2001 XC with 11k miles just blew its first lowbeam headlamp. Can anyone comment on whether this is way to early to lose it or just one of those things? We still have the idiot DRLs turned on, but I am going to have the dealer turn them off at the 15k service. While I don't mind buying a $14 bulb, I just want to know if I should buy a 6-pack next time...

Thanks!

Re: Blown headlamp: Pre 2001 XC redux? V70-XC70 2001

This is far too soon. Even with DRL's you should get more mileage off a bulb than that. The exception of course is if you have been letting the car sit at idle for a few thousand hours since you got it or if you turn it on and off (Along with the headlights) a lot. You may have had the good luck to get a bum bulb, it happens sometimes. Replace it and see what happens. If it blows out real quick again tell the dealer you want a warranty covered repair done because that is not normal.

All bulbs on all 99 and newer Volvo models are covered for the full 4 year 50k warranty in the US.
