Inspection and replacement of vaccum lines? S70

Hi Everyone,
My S70 GLT is running again but now the issue of old vacuum lines is causing me to think about replacing some of those rubber hoses. Does anyone have any images to share and ideas about which vacuum hoses i might consider inspecting and possibly replacing?

It is usually the vacuum line elbows that get dried out and cracked. So check the line under #1, the elbows infront of the intake manifold and those around the air cleaner and turbo control valve. None of the elbows should have cracks and they all should fit snug.

If you want to check the crankcase vacuum, turn off a warm engine, remove the oil filler cap, cover the cap with a latex glove (used) and secure it with a rubber band, and start the engine back up. If the glove expands, you have a problem.

If you have a turbo, the PTC nipple on the air pipe between the air cleaner and the turbo will need cleaning. It gets really bad if regular engine oil is used.

      Hi Klaus,
I called Beechmont Volvo in CI and they could provide pictures to help me identify most of the vacuum hoses but they asked me for more information about the elbow referencing #1 cylinder. Apparently there are multiple hoses. Could you please provide more information and/or a picture?

If you have a turbo, that vacuum line from the left of #1 goes to the PTC. On NA engines, it goes to the flame trap. Yes, the elbow is hidden by the intake manifold, it is approx 4 inches long and then connects to the longer vacuum line.

Usually, a blind inspection using just fingers and ears can determine if it is cracked or leaking (engine running). There is only one vacuum line at that location.

The small hard plastic vacuum lines never break or crack, but they can come loose at the elbows.
