Bulb out indicator on, lights all appear ok S70 1998

My bulb out indicator came on, and I confirmed the following lights work:

Headlights, both high and low both sides
Parking lights, one bulb top rear each side, both sides front
Turn signals center rear each side, both sides front
Rear fog light, one bulb left trunk lid
Two license plate lights (one was out, I re-seated it and it came on)

This car does not have driving lights. Any suggestions? Did I miss a bulb?

Maybe you forgot the high brake light? that is part of the tail/parking lights too?

The others are right a corroded bulb/socket can add resistance and mess up the works. Clean the bulb and socket with dry scotch brite and use a little di-electric silicone to prevent corrosion.

If it comes on with parking lights, look there first.

Sometimes you may find that bulbs need to be replaced in pairs, since one may
draw more current than another triggering the bulb sensor.

Try removing the tail lights a set at a time, until the bulb out sensor is happy.
Then you find the problem. The sensor can trigger with both bulbs lit, but one
bulb will be drawing more current.

Thanks Bill. I did remember the high brake light, though I may have missed it in the list above.

Turned out both inboard parking lights were out due to a little corrosion on mounting plate.

Try moving the headlight switch to the parking light position to make sure it is not one of the headlights.

You might want to take the bulb holder out of the trunk lights and clean the bulb base and holder.

The bulb out indicator works by noting a difference of voltage used from side to side of car.

The brake lights will only trigger the warning when the brakes are applied.

Are you sure it is the bulb out and not the rear fog light indicator? Bulb out warning has an "X" through it.

It's 1am, and I'm about to hit the sack, but here's my recollection.

The indicator in question looks like a circle with a filament inside it, and maybe a base. It comes on in both the parking light and headlight position of the switch, which I believe you are pointing out may indicate is NOT the headlights. So if there is some resistance in a contact, it may cause enough voltage drop to throw things off. Makes sense.

The fog light has its own indicator, which is working when that switch is on. It has those three slashes pointed down.

I guess I can try deoxiting the contacts of the bulbs in the back, which is easy. Maybe reseating the connectors at the brain of this - as I recall it is located somewhere in the trunk - maybe near the spare tire well?

There should be 4 bulbs lit on the rear for the parking lamps, 2 on each side

You're a genius! So all that red they put in the trunk lid is actually functional?

The inboard lights were both out. All that was needed was to reseat the inserts. One of the trim covers isn't even there - I never looked up there when the lid was open.

Fantastic! Now on to the other stuff that has broken recently. Two days ago, I opened the door and the spring broke. I see to recall that at least on 850's a repair requires welding. Meant to sell this thing months ago.

            Thanks, Bob.
