Noise On Hard Left Turn XC90 2004

Right after I had the inner tie rods replaced on my '04 XC90 w/220K miles, I noticed a "grinding" type of noise when I made a hard left turn - such as a U-turn.

I know I need to return to the mechanic who did the job, but ya'll have been quite helpful over the years and I thought I'd get your advice in the meantime.

Any way to leave an audio file here so you could hear the noise?

Thanks for any advice.

I've recorded an audio file of the noise my XC90 is making during those hard left turns.

You can find it here: http://youtu.be/EM0hYB5PW2I

Tough to hear properly. I suggest looking at the inside of the tire, the raised letters might be rubbing on something. And inspect the fender liner for slight wear.

Eyeball your CV joint boots for tears, lose the grease, lose the bearings.

Others have put the audio on Youtube and the URL link here. But we need to know if the steering is at lock, which side the noise is coming from, and how fast you are going at the time.

But call the mechanic as his ears are closer to the problem and we don't have a lift.

Yeah, I need to find time to get the car back to the mechanic.

As for the specifics, I can hear the scraping noise during a hard left turn - the steering doesn't have to be maxed out - and traveling at a modest speed, like 10 MPH. Maybe slower. I can cause the noise to stop by taking U-turns quite slowly. Not always an option when there's on-coming traffic.

I had seen a post where a similar issue was described. The owner found scrape marks on the inside of the wheel. that should be easy to scope out.

Because the noise started immediately after I had the inner tie rods done, I have to think there's a relationship. The tie-rod job created a vast improvement in the steering feel/responsiveness.
