Belt(s) squeals when driving though a puddle. V70-XC70 2001

Hello All. I just encountered something strange. My 2001 Volvo V70 XC, 229,000 miles, squeals intermittently when I hit a puddle. The squeal is coming from the right side, so I'm assuming it's either the serpentine or timing belt. I changed the serpentine, timing belts, water pump, thermostat and spark plugs, using all Volvo parts, at 212,000 and this squealing started just today. I am not experiencing a loss of power and the sound can go away quickly or continue for 30 annoying seconds. Any ideas/solutions??

Thanks,

Thanks, for ideas!! I'm going check the tightness of the tensionor and report back. In the mean time, I have to batten down the hatches as this blizzard makes its way up the coast to CT!!

Check the tensioner on the S belt, it may be a bit loose. It is not the timing belt as it cannot slip.

If you changed the tensioners with the belts I would look for an accessory with bad bearings or that is making noise.

Depending how much water, how deep the puddle and how fast the car is traversing it, splashing water will work its way into the engine compartment, especially when there is no engine shield below to deflect the water. The right side is where the engine pulleys and belts are, and the water splashing on the belt and pulleys will cause some belt slippage and squealing until it dries out. Because the toothed timing belt is somewhat protected by its engine cover and will not slip, the squealing is from the serp belt.
