coolent on rib below upper oil cooler fitting on radiator ! V70-XC70 1998

Under the upper oil cooler line I get a few drops of Coolant,

can I loosen the cooler fittings put some silicone around it and tighten it ?

anyone experience a leak at this point.

the radiator is about a year old.

The oil cooler lines inside the radiator are not inside the antifreeze lines, that would heat up the engine oil and defeat the purpose. Replacing the oil O rings will not help.

I suggest looking again, it is probably a bad radiator. These plastic to metal fittings don't hold up very well. Which brand of radiator did you use?

Not sure of the brand it was replaced before I got it.

So the transfer of heat from the oil does not involve the coolant?

I have seen new radiators for $74 free shipping That almost seems unbelievable.

I would opt for a Nissens at around $165, they seem to have longer life than the other options. OEM is around $225.

If you DIY, I suggest cleaning out the intercooler with soap and water if it appears that there is any oil in the passageways. Also a good time to clean the dirt off the cooling fins.

If the coolant hoses don't look that great, replace both of them. And remember not to over tighten them, the radiator fittings are plastic and can deform.

If you have coolant dripping out of the transmission oil cooler line you have bigger problems than a leaky fitting. How does the transmission fluid look after driving the car ? If it looks normal, the antifreeze is probably coming from somewhere else.

Try tightening the radiator hose clamps. Between the air coming through the radiator and the cooling fan the antifreeze can get blown all over.

The transmission cooler line is sealed with an oring that should have been replaced with the transmission. Don't use RTV on it.

      Hmmmm.

There is no mixing of fluids going on just a little coolant leak I assume there is a pipe in the side tank that is immersed in coolant and carries oil from the engine to cool maybe the plastic radiator is cracked, where it exits the side tank,I will take it apart and report back.

I have seen block offs to eliminate cooler lines etc. I doubt the oil needs much cooling given -12 f last night and my pokey driving.
