IPD has a very exspenive chip to raise hp. If your not going to hot rod off the line just use the extra power in passing on hwy's etc., will it hurt the tran or car? Thanks Linden 850 turbo

Re: old subject 850 96

Anytime you increase power it will create more sress on all components such as the tranny, engine, even suspension and brakes. It's all a matter of just how much of an increase you are planning on.

I think it's pretty safe to say iPd's ECU upgrade is safe.

After talking to many 850T and _70 T5 owners, connecting rods start to go at 20psi of boost on the stock TD04-15G and 16G turbos, which works out to about 340hp if you can deliver enough fuel, which the stock injectors won't. And if you don't get enough fuel in, then you'll damage the con rods and cylinders as well running lean. To get enough fuel in at 20psi, you'd need atleast V70 R euro spec injectors. And tranny damage starts to occur at about the 330 ft.lbs, but this is relative to auto/manual, FWD/AWD, weight in the car (i.e. towing), how the car is driven, etc.

I know I am leaving a lot of the details out when it comes to max power before excessive damage, but I think it is safe to say an iPd ECU and exhaust, filter, and a couple turns on the waste gate will probably still be safe as long as you don't go ape shit on the wastegate. And all these mods on a Turbo or T5 should put you into the 290hp range. So you've still got 40hp or so before you'll start snapping things, so you should be alright.

Re: old subject 850 96

With 60,000 miles on my chipped V-70 AWD, I have had no problems of any kind to report. Considering that the factory chip is prone to skip/dip at idle, I feel I'm much better off.

Regards,

Mike Harris in Sandy Eggo
