wheel emblems S40-V40

My both of my rear wheel emblems are loose. I can spin them, but I can’t pull them out or tighten them. Are they about to fall out? Should I pull them out are leave them alone.

It’s interesting that only my rear wheel one loosened up and not the fronts.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

Edvig

Re: wheel emblems S70 98

You have nothing to worry about. The emblems are the same as te 850/S/V/C70, etc, etc. They have to come out for balancing and depending on the shop, tire mounting. Because they're not a ciritcal component they probably have very loose tolerances causing the rears to loosen but not the front. Give it time and I bet the fronts will too. Either way its not a problem, they wont fall out.

Re: wheel emblems S40-V40 00

Sorry, Ian.

I have lost two of them. One at a time from the front!!! The dealer doesn't keep them in stock and won't pay for them under warranty. He sais we are not the only one with the problem. He sais the wheels get hot, the plastic gets hot and expands and no longer hold on! I'm about to glue these puppies on !

This is what I am afraid of. Since this has happened before to other people, mine will fall off in due time. What a pain.

Love the car otherwise.

The dealer should keep them in stock and cover them under warranty-I've gone through 4. When it first seemed that they wouldn't fix them I sent an email to Volvo customer service and cc'd the dealer. He responded right away. They seem to be very concerned about their customer relationship ratings with Volvo. Go to a different dealer.

Re: wheel emblems S40-V40 00

Nathan, I'll second your post. I lost the 2 front emblems off my 2000 S40 within the first 6 months. It took my dealer awhile to get the replacements but haven't had any problems over the last year. I don't remember the specifics but I thought there was a design change on the new emblems. Whatever it was, it worked.

Re: wheel emblems S40-V40 00

Edvig,

When re-installing your emblems, put a small dab of clear silicone caulk on 4 opposing sides of the emblem, and slide them back in. My emblems have not become loose in over a year. Good Luck.

Pete.

Re: wheel emblems S40-V40

If they are like the 850 rims, the wheel emblems can be removed by pushing them out from the inside end. They have to be removable for certain balancing and tire mounting machines.

Remove one wheel, and you'll see that the emblem is sort of like a cylinder with plastic hooks to hook onto the rim. Otherwise, they are different from the 850 rims.
