Recommendations for Brake Fluid ALL

I should be receiving my SPG9 Stainless Steel Brake lines sometime this week and I plan on doing a compelte brake fluid flush as required, and am wondering about using other brake fluids.

Sticking with the DOT 4, I was thinking about using Motul. Any other recommendations, and why?

Thanks.

Re: Recommendations for Brake Fluid 850 1996

Definitely stick with DOT4. (I know of a few cases where brake systems designed for DOT3 had seal problems when switching to DOT4. I don't know if the problem can go the other way, but better safe than sorry.)

The local brake engineers that I consort with say that the most important thing to look for in a brake fluid is the container! Plastic is naturally porous and will naturally let some air and moisture right through the plastic. Metal does not have this problem.

Re: Recommendations for Brake Fluid 850 1996

Thanks for the info.

I guess that's why Volvo's brake fluid comes in a can.

One thing I've noticed with plastic containers is the deflated look. I've seen a couple different plastic bottled brake fluids that look as if a vaccuum was applied on the inside. I wonder if this means the brake fluid has gone bad?

Re: Recommendations for Brake Fluid ALL

I have used ATE Super Blue and Typ 200 with pretty good sucess I usually alternate flushes with the two. They are the same except Blue has a blue color and Typ200 is amber. They are both DOT4+, and I believe they cost less than Motul with almost the same boiling points. Another advantage to with the blue and amber is, it is easy to see when you have flushed out the old fluid.

Valvoline makes a brake fluid with pretty high boiling point too, plus it is pretty cost effective.

Hey! That's a great recommendation. Jarrod should definetly archive this one.

Re: Recommendations for Brake Fluid ALL

If you are sticking with OME brake fluid it is DOT 4+, not Dot4.
