downpipes 850 96

I've been looking at a downpipe upgrade as my next upgrade. Are there any 3" downpipe/high flow cat setup that will work on an OBD II car, and also pass emmisions? I've heard that the ATR 2.5" downpipe/cat setup works on the 96+ cars. Is there much of a difference to be noticed from a 3" downpipe instead of a 2.5". Also has anyone done a throttle body upgrade?...was it a noticable improvement? any info would be appreciated

thanks

Andy

Re: downpipes 850 96

Hi Andy, this is a bit off the subject, but I saw that in your signature, you have the zimmerman x-drilled rotors listed. How do you like them? I've been thinking about getting them from Ebay for my '97 850R. I've been getting a lot of brake fade, judder lately. I need new rotors soon. Thanks.

Re: downpipes 850 96

ATR fits all cares older then 96 not newer. You can change to a 3.25 flange pretty easy though. The difference is decent on a stock car. With a DP and cat back it will level the torque curve a lot. Drives more like an NA. As for the throttle body they also make a good size difference on a modified car. But save your 240 dollars till you have done everything else. Oh before people say TBs don't make a difference, I saw a decently modified Volvo show a 9hp gain at 5300 rpm for myself.

Re: downpipes 850 96

Does anyone make a downpipe/highflow cat system for the 96+ 850 turbos? The only other downpipe systems I have seen so far are the "race only systems" which aren't emmisions legal and won't work on an OBD II car. Is my only option a custom setup? Has anyone changed the downpipe/cat on a 96+ car? will it set off the check engine light? and can reprogramming the ecu take care of a check engine light. I'm looking at going with custom ecu program down the road. As for the Zimmerman rotors I just put them last week I haven't had much of a chance too drive with them much, but so far I did have a little less brake fade when braking from higher speeds.

thanks

Andy

Re: 3" Ferrita downpipe 850 95

I have a 3" Ferrita downpipe w/ race cat and a 2.5" cat back. I bought mine in Sweden but I think Coyote Motorsports is now importing the Ferrita brand exhaust system to the USA. Fitment is great and it's all stainless.

Re: 3" Ferrita downpipe 850 95

Michael, hope you can answer a few questions I have regarding the 3" downpipe you have on your 850 turbo. Was there any significant gain after going with this setup, that is, a 3" DP with 2.5" exhaust? Also, did the Ferrita DP have a flex joint/pipe? How much did the DP cost? Finally, and most importantly, did this setup set off any check engine lights afterward?

Thanks

Re: 3" Ferrita downpipe 850 95

I installed the downpipe after already having a chip and 2.5'cat back. I did notice a difference in power by adding the downpipe. The downpipe should add 12-15hp based on dyno results I've seen. (Not done on my car). The Ferrita dp does have the flex section. I have had no codes as a result of the dp install. I think I paid between $6-700. It's been a year and I paid Swedish Kronor originally.

The 2.5" cat back is what made the exhaust note louder, but I did notice that I could definatly hear the turbo spool up more prevelantly once the dp was installed.

I took a pic of the dp that I can try and send you if you like.

-Michael
