Another broken door strap 850 1996

Add me to the list of broken door straps. The strap mounting bracket on the driver's door has just about broken free from the door frame on our 96 850. It is not a loose bolt. I guess it will have to be welded- looks like a poor design and metal fatigue. Anybody gotten any goodwill help from Volvo on this repair? Car only has 56K miles. Any tips on getting it repaired properly? Alldata shows a service bulletin on this from 1995. Should the welded area be painted?

Volvo's are not the cars they once were... Wish I did not have 2 of them!

Thanks,

Dave

Re: Another broken door strap 850 1996

I deal with a Volvo body shop here in town, they weld those things all day

long, im counting down the days till mine fall off, i think they charge like 270 or 280, for the welding and painting, door has to be removed for it to be welded properly, they have to do it for a lot of other cars that have been welded with the doors on, make sure they are removed, any questions, email me, Jamie

Re: Another broken door strap 850 1996

Thanks for the help. I had the door strap repair done yesterday at the local Volvo dealer's body shop. He had seen a bunch of them, and knew the door needed to come off. Looks like new again- just hope it holds this time. Total was $158, which was about 2 hours labor plus some materials.

      Thanks again,

      Dave
