Mud guard V70-XC70 2000

2000 V70 SE

Hit a high curb and the right mud guard was knocked off. See pic; do the mounting rivets in wheel well just pull out (e.g., with pliers? I wonder if they can be re-used.

When I replaced the front bumper on our 850, I put 8 penny nails in all the holes to make sure they ALL lined up, and then started from the middle to install the rivets.

Once, I tried regular pop rivets, and they did not last ling - get the Volvo-type rivets of the correct size.

    They are special pop rivets.
I drilled out mine to replace.

I got some of them from IPD
and I got some more at the local body shop/car paint supply store that work:

    a Box of 25
    #2354 (388664-S100)
    3/16" Grille Retaining Rivet
    9/16" Flange Diameter
    3/8 to 1/2" grip range
    Black Phosphate
    Ford '79 & up

Get more than you need since it's easy to waste some.

These are also used to secure the trim around the wheel well
which reminds me that I have some to replace.

Found the correct rivet on ipd site; #110750

Been a while since I've worked with pop rivets; is a special tool required to install them? I'll drill the old rivets out.

      Thanks,

Clean the holes after the pop rivet is drilled out, and then use a little paint so that rust doesn't start. Note the plastic tape on the fender, it is there to keep the mudguard from rubbing the paint off.

You need a pop rivet gun. Get one at Harbor Freight or probably any
hardware store. They use two or three different screw-in holders for different diameter pop rivet shafts.

        It's a useful tool.
