O2 sensor V70-XC70 1998

Over the last 8 months Check engine came on 2 times. Both times with P0131 (Bank 1 O2 sensor failure). I didn't have time to replace it. I just reset the OBD code and drove it. CEL didn't re-appear in 3 months or so. Finally over the week end I replaced the O2 sensor with another Bosh with correct part number. Now, a day later I get a CEL, with P0130 code (O2 malfunction). How can this be?

I assume you bought a plug and play type. Check the connector and make sure no dirt got in it, all of the pins are at the same level(not pushed back), and the contacts look good.

It is possible that the O2 sensor is no good.

One of the Volvospeed posts mentioning disconnecting the battery for 15 min, letting the computer 'relearn' the driving habits.

I reset the OBD code. Should I still disconnect the battery?

It's a pain to reenter the radio code, but a battery disconnect also deletes tranny memory as well as driving habit memory.

If the code comes back immediately after reset, I suspect the connection is the problem. O2 sensors are fairly reliable, but, it is also possible to get a bad one.
