How to aim headlights on '01 V70? V70-XC70 2001

Anybody out there in Volvo Land know the trick to aiming the headlights on the '01 V70? I'm guessing there is some fancy Volvo tool to do it. The old-fashioned two-phillips-screws-with-springs don't seem to exist any more, and that just makes me sad. Of course the other thing that makes me sad is the lack of a shop manual for this car...which, in theory, would answer my question for me.

Thanks!

    Headlight aimers found! V70-XC70 2001

It turns out that the aimers were too obvious. They're little white plastic hex-shaped deals. The lateral one, as required by law, is capped with an easily-removed black plastic cover. It's a pretty simple project now...once I find a nice perpendicular wall somewhere. I was looking all over for something that more resembled a screw like on old-fashioned headlights.

The headlight aim adjusters are behind the lamps on an axis perpendicular to ground. I think a Torx screw driver is needed.

BTW the fogs are adjustable also but it requires a splash panel be removed to get at the adjuster.

fog adjust is EASY V70-XC70 2001

      Abe -

Well, I just went out in the cold, dark garage and crawled under the bumper. There is a knurled adjuster just sitting right there beind the bumper, below the fog light. NO splash guard or anything. Wonder if I'm missing something down there (?) thanks a ton for pointing out that they're adjustable though. I never would have guessed.

Now, if I can just find those frigging headlight adjusters.

      Hey Abe -

How ya been? I'll take a closer look behind the lamps. I sure didn't see anything in there the first time I looked...but you haven't let me down yet.

And that's great news about the fogs being adjustable too. As they are now, I only get about three feet forward illumination on them. I'll search around for a splash panel I can pop out of there. I wouldn't mind a bit more utility from them.

Man, this is great. Where else am I gonna get three replies to a question in about 15 minutes so late at night?

    Darell,

My headlights are OK, but the fog light beams hit the ground about six feet in front of the car and therefore are of absolutely no use as currently adjusted. Doesn't really matter though as they don't seem to be that bright anyway, I think they are more of a cosmetic item than an actual useful foglight.

      Bruce -

If your fogs are hitting six feet forward, then they're more useful than mine already! But I agree that the fogs need more power to be of any real use.

My headlights aren't TOO bad, but they could be better. The left one hits the right margin line on the freeway, and I'd like it down the middle of the road a bit better.

Can't say I've needed to do it yet with an '01 car but there is no special tools to do it so if needed, you bounce the beems off a wall and adjust accordingly. There should be adjustment screws.

      John-

"Need" is such a slippery word. There are very few things I need, but many I want :-) I just want mine aimed a bit better than the way they came. I know there should be adjustment screws (and apparently they're Torx) - I just need to find the little buggers. I just went out and looked again, and I don't see any adjusters. I'll find 'em eventually, I'm sure.
