Need to replace the headlight wiper motor 850 1996

Hello All,

I have a 1996 850 GLT wagon and the wiper motor for the driver’s side headlight is starting to fail. It “locks-up” from time to time. Is there a good “how to” video around to show how to replace this motor. I think I did this once before, and all it required was the removal of the headlight lens, but I don’t trust my memory. So I’m not ashamed to ask for help and guidance. Thanks to all who reply.

Hugh

Correct, the headlight needs to be removed. Make sure to scribe the bolt locations for the hood latch (the latch gets in the way of one 10mm screw).

I picked up a left side wiper motor at the P&P and thankfully, it works. The 8" wiper arms are harder to find.

Klaus,

Thank you for your response. It is nice to know that my “memory” is intact. Also your suggestion of marking the location of the hood latch in case I have to move it is an excellent one. You know our “850’s” are becoming “Classics”. I have noticed that more and more parts are no longer available from Volvo or have been relegated to the “Classic Volvo Parts” roster, which means waiting to have them shipped over from Sweden.

Hugh
