windshield fluid not spraying on windshield S80 2007

I noticed that there was no windshield wiper fluid coming on the front windshield when i pulled the lever. I opened up the hood and put more fluid in, but quickly found out it was almost full. Then I pulled the lever with the hood open and the fluid sprays directly DOWN underneath the hood. I don't understand why this is happening, but suspect it has something to do with the area that I've taken a picture of.

Has anyone seen this before? If so, what is the fix?

That part looks similar to the check valve in 740s washing system

If so, there was a red cap, a spring and a thin rubber diaphragm.

Get a new one.

If one fails without the cap coming off, you can remove the cap and spring and replace a bad diaphragm with a small round piece of dishwashing glove - so small that your wife won't even mind!

I have seen the diaphragm tear, or turn to gummy gunk.

Although not familiar with s80's - I believe there is a cap that is missing off of the middle part. Should be as easily as changing out the connector - but if it blows again I would check the lines and nozzles for restrictions
