My dilemma: V70 AWD or FWD V70-XC70

Hi All, wanting to find a new (to us) V70, probably 2003 or later. It seems ads for XC-AWD vehicles are much more plentiful than FWD, would appreciate any thoughts on how much additional problems to expect from an AWD vehicle. I was wanting to avoid additional complications from AWD, but maybe I'm overstating the problem. I read somewhere here that a totally different rear drive system was used after about 2005 ... should that be a factor? Thanks for any suggestions!

My dilemma: V70 AWD or FWD V70-XC70

I prefer the FWD non Turbo. Less Hassle.

    We have
    99V70 FWD 285K
    99XC70 AWD 220K
    04V70 FWD 210K

My dilemma: V70 AWD or FWD V70-XC70

Our `03 XC70 had +- 250K on it when it began to have tranny flare/extremely hard shifting.
I tend to agree re: FWD vs AWD but I do prefer turbo. WE had an 855 for years & ran winters on it & that car would go anywhere thru our snowy winters. When turbo is concerned.....I drove a friend`s non-turbo & it seemed pretty "gutless" compared to out turbo. Never experienced a turbo issue on any of our 3 turbo Volvo`s.

My dilemma: V70 AWD or FWD V70-XC70

    For what it is worth:

    I have a 2004 V-70 FWD, I have driven 170K miles
My wife has a 2003 V-70 XC AWD, with 120K miles. I believe the new Haledex(sp) drive was first installed in the 2003 model.

The maintenance/repair for both cars has been similar, with no work required on the 2003 AWD system, other than a bevel gear oil change.

I live where we get some winter and the AWD is a superior car in all respects in snow and slick roads.

My dilemma: V70 AWD or FWD V70-XC70

I have a 2005 V70 2.5T which has been great. I was warned to change the tranny fluid by my mechanic at 60K, which is when he noticed it hadn't been. I also noticed some funky shifting at times. That has gone away since the flush.

I am moving to a snowy climate, from eastern PA. While the V70 with STC has been fine in winter here, I'm pretty sure I will need to upgrade in the lower Adirondacks. Just my .02

We own both an `03 XC70 & an `04 XC70. The `03 was my wife`s daily commuter for 6 yrs & was an excellent car. A year ago it developed "tranny flare" which gradually worsened until we were faced with "retiring" the car even tho` it was running really strong excluding the tranny. Fortunately, a friend had decided to sell his `04 around the same time.
Have been driving the `04 for 6 months but so far has been great. No signs of impending issues.
Sorry I can`t offer any technical info, just my .02 & driving experiences.
        Rich
