Leaking Weather stripping on Driver’s door - What to do? 850 1996

Hello All,

I have a 1996 850 GLT wagon with 295,000 miles on the odometer. Recently, I have noticed when it rains, even with the window all the way up, random drops of water will leak in at the top of the window of the driver’s door. The leak point is where the slanted portion of the window reaches the flat top part of the window. I notice with the door closed there is a slight gap between the door frame and the rubber weather stripping the runs along the edge of the door. I have compared the gap on the front passenger door and the weather stripping is completely flushed against the door frame. It doesn’t leak. I think this gap is the cause of the water getting in on the driver’s door. If I physically press against the door while it is closed, I will reduce the size of the gap. If I adjust the striker plate, so the door closes more tightly, I then have to slam the door to close it. When I open the door, it “pops” open because of the increase door tension.

I think, that perhaps over the years and repeated opening and closing of the driver’s door, the rubber weather shipping has become slightly “compressed” and no longer seats itself against the door frame. Before I go and replay this rubber weather stripping, assuming it is still available from Volvo, I would like to know if anyone else has had this problem? Thanks to all who respond.

Hugh
