grinding noise V70-XC70 2009

Hello all

When i use my 2009 V70 T6 first thing of the day there is a grinding noise from high up in the engine bay on the right hand side

On idle and stationary
this noise also happens when on overrun down a hill
also when braking
sometimes a clunk down lower

When the car is hot and been used for a while the noise goes away and even if has been sitting for a long time goes away or is intermittent

I thought: engine mount
and sure enough the upper torque rod rubber was shot

Replaced it

The noise is still there and i have had a look at the lower rear mount
looks good and i can not see any rub marks or anything touching any where else

So, any thoughts on the larger upper engine mount
is it hydraulic
it seems to move around fairly easily

I hope this rings a bell with someone and i give thanks for your thoughts

Regards David

Well Yippee ai ya, i have fixed my issues and yes it was the engine mount which had deteriorated and consequently had taken out the engine strut mount.

I noticed most of the plastic cable protector around the injector wiring had disintegrated so i replaced with some i bought from hf tools. i'll see how long this lasts and my question is: what else do you use around the injecter wiring as the plastic stuff seems to have a short life.

Thanks again for your input
David

I used a large diameter vacuum line cut to length, and then cut a slit the entire length. Just to be safe, I wrapped electrical tape around the vacuum line at both ends and at each injector. -- I happened to have some silicone vacuum line that is very flexible.

You need to localize the noise a little better. If your E brakes work and you insurance is up to date, set them, raise the hood, chock one or two of the front wheels, start the car, put it in reverse, make sure the car doesn't move. Then with a longish stick, check for noise at the P/S, alternator, and compressor pulleys.

Well, it could be a rattling noise
and moving gear selector produces as follows
park to reverse---noise
then into drive---no noise
through to reverse noise

hope this addition adds light

The top engine mount is elastic really and will move a little. You shouldn't have free-play in there though. That is not going to make your noise though. I suspect you may be hearing water pump bearings - is it grinding sound?
