Clearcoat is shot . Eventually I'll get rust - yea? 850 1995

I figure I should get it repainted. At some point paint failure must let water into the metal.

The paint might have held up better but the top was resprayed as a warantee claim. When the car was a year old I had grey dots. Turns out that was the primer, the top coat popped off. Well it made sense in 1996 and the dealer had the top and trunklid resprayed. Now those are the 2 panels failing. The hood is good.

Eventually. I would talk to a Mom & Pop local collision repair place and discuss the options. Could he match the color if he just painted the top and trunk lid? Do you want a couple of coats of clear coat instead of just one? Any 'dings' to get out?

Don't bother going to a franchise, they just pour paint on the car.

There is a huge ding in the RF fender , a tree jumped out 850 1995

But the paint hung in and no rust. My son did this about 6 years ago.

I am a 'stich in time saves 9 type of guy'. Ugly is possibly OK, but I can't allow rust to take hold of the roof. The clearcoat was probably good until 2 years ago. Back in the day I'd see late 80s GM cars with rust taking over on hoods and roofs.

There is always the possiblility that I could try painting myself by 2018, if the roof is still metal. I might be getting a compressor for example in the future. I could practise my painting skills on the 89 Aries first.

Is the car worth a re-paint?
