Retiring '95 855T, Looking at '08 V70. Good year? V70-XC70 2008

Found an '08 V70, non XC. Looks great. I'm very familiar with our '95 855T which I've serviced myself for the last 170,000 miles.

Looking for opinions on the 2008.

Thanks.

Erwin

First year for the gas guzzling 6 cyl. Either a 3L Turbo or a 3.2L NA. Extra spark plug and less engine room than the 2007. You can always check the dash computer to see what the MPG is, unless it has been driven a lot by test drivers who tend to drive short trips and give it more gas than normal.

Two keys!

Gas mileage V70-XC70 2008

My take on the gas mileage:

A friend has a 2011 XC AXD T6. It's a heavy beast, but it gets 24 mpg at 75 mph. It's also the fastest Volvo I've ever driven. The T6 is a fabulous engine. I would think a FWD V70 would get a mile or 2 a gallon better. Not as bad as you think. Almost as good as my 90 240 was...:)

Follow up V70-XC70 2008

My 240 averaged 26 mpg on the highway with a slushbox. I think a 6 cylinder V70 might match that. Automatic 240's weren't great on gas...:)

Seeing it had a 3.2 i6 threw me. Is it plauged by the same problems the 960 had or is it a better lump? 64,000 miles and looks new.

Thanks for the reply Klaus

Much better than the old dog food! Just thirsty like the 960. The same engine is used in the 2015, but better gearing in the tranny and the MPG is better.

Saw and drove the car today. A slight rub on front bumper but otherwise looks new. It's tight, quiet but doesn't have the 855t acceleration. Manual mode makes up for it but my wife is fine with the performance.

Premium option pkg. Worked down from $14,500 to $12,300. Fair price? KBB and NADA differ by $4K. She wants it. SO much more refined than the 855T.

We can't buy it for you. Is there maint history? Any other imperfections? When is the next service?

Keeping you wife happy is always a plus!

If you wanted head snapping performance, you would need an "R". This car has the low pressure turbo.

No service history present but I can pull that at dealership. Fwiw, clean Autocheck report. Local trade-in. No other warts beyond the bumper rub. Clean oil, clean underneath and under hood.

Will decide tomorrow.

Open all of the doors and check the inside painted lip. You are looking for rough paint which would indicate prior damage - body shops seldom ever buff that little area, especially on the hinge end.

Tell the salesman that the bumper scuff is going to cost a small fortune to repair and get the paint match correctly...

And get the repair history printed before you sign anything. Those printouts do not include dollars or names, but they do have customer concerns and repair comments. Nice to put in a folder.
