Question about in-dash start module, Picture. V70-XC70 2008

I need the in-dash start module (the mechanism that the fob is inserted into) replaced on our '08 V70. It doesn't eject half the time and chatters a lot when inserting the fob. A local indy shop quoted $750, the dealer quoted $550, but I see a new unit on ebay for $190. I know how to physically install it, but is this mechanism "fob agnostic?" Does it have to be programmed for my fobs or is the code reader a separate part that this will attach to?

(I was surprised the indy quote is $200 higher)

Thanks,

Erwin

Question about in-dash start module, Picture. V70-XC70 2008

If I were Volvo, I would make sure the remote/key is read by this device. So programming would be needed.

But, have you checked the battery lately? Noise when inserting the remote is common, but so is a bad ground cable at the battery. Any drop in voltage will really mess with this unit. If your battery is original, it is time to get a new one.

New battery about 4 months ago. I'll check the other end of the battery ground.
