Ok

My mounts are in good condition

Would a Software adaptation work

If its the tranny i would have to buy a 2nd hand one

or have a rebuild

what is the exact problem

can i fit a later trans without these problems

other than this the car is in exceptional condition

Thanks David

The B4 servo cover is worth checking out as it`s an inexpensive approach. The Toyota tranny fluid is lots cheaper than the Volvo brand......same stuff!
My 2012 XC60R was a pretty good deal considering we bought it at the dealership.....showroom condition with very low mileage. Taking it on the first road trip to Montana today so looking forward to it.

Read the info below the product listing:
      https://www.ipdusa.com/products/5538/107960-automatic-transmission-b4-servo-cover-update-aw55-50-51

It may or may not help a 'hard' shift.

Most of the tranny problems went away starting in 2004.

This is just my experience & others, notably, Klaus are much more informed than I am. We took the car to the local dealer to see about a transmission software upgrade but they told us it likely wouldn`t make a difference. Of course, the dealer was willing to sell us a rebuilt transmission for 5K. We did the B4 servo cover from IPD & did the tranny oil change. It did make a difference for about two months but the hard shifting came back.
Our `03 still runs strong with a good body, etc but it became impossible to drive in city traffic.
We have an `04 XC70 that doesn`t have tranny issues whatsoever despite fairly high mileage. Just bought a 2012 XC60R.......what a Volvo!
    Good luck!
