S40 suspension

2001 S40- 160,000 miles. Clunking and squeaking in the rear. So, time to get to the suspension. Before I go in, what parts do you all suggest I change at this point? What's back there? Since I will be taking the shocks out...what can I do to bring it up to speed?

S40 suspension

I had to replace the front and rear springs and struts at 191,000 miles on our '01.
The springs were broken. This car was never driven hard so I was kind of surprised that they were broken. Never saw that on any other car I've owned.

You may want to consider springs if you're in one of these northeastern states.

For 'clunking' you need to inspect the bushings and the exhaust pipe. Check the heat shield around the mufflers.
