new piston for 2.5 t2 XC90 2006

Hello
Are all the white block pistons the same?
can they be swapped between years or at least turbo models
Thanxs

The pistons for the 2.5 are the same, the wrist pins for the Turbo are different.

How did you manage to break a piston?

      Hello

So I would need a piston from any 2.5 turbo engine.which is like 05 on I think.
      Good to know !
I picked the car up as a fixer up. the only thing I know is it went into the
tire front end shop for brakes tires and an oil change.
20 miles after they picked it up the #2 rod went through the block
the other rod bearings show no real wear 170k.
supposedly they put the oil back in.
the engine was koked up in places.
      but overall looks ok
I may swap the engine but thought I might try to replace the piston and rod
and patch the hole with aluminum solder or high temp epoxy.
      thanks
Never saw a stock Volvo engine fail like this.

Personally, I would get another engine rather than patch this one. The only time I heard of a rod going through a block was when the owner put in a T19 turbo and boosted it up to 24psi - he was asking for it!

Sounds almost like the shop forgot to add oil, which should have been all over the side of the engine bay. I wouldn't trust the main bearings at this point.

If you do swap engines, replace the RMS and tranny seals, do the Tbelt change and the PCV system before installing the used engine.

Can the engine come out alone ?

New seals make perfect sense if you are in there.

My local Auto Wrecker has a 2007 with 54k for about the price of 4 new tires.

So after a buying gaskets rings bearing shells connecting rod and piston

You could wind up with the same cost.

The only way it would make sense is if you could install the piston from

Bottom then put on the rod. leaving the head in place.

          Ciao !

It is easier to pull the engine with the tranny attached. The hood raises to 90 degrees, which helps. The auto tranny is the same for both years, so no hassle there.

What about the transfer case or haldex ? unit
comes out with everything else ?
I usually leave the exhaust manifold and turbo in the car when taking off a head.
              on a 2wd s70 or 850 same on AWD ?
All the axles and driveshaft out first i assume ?
You got me thinking maybe I'll take a look at that engine at the wreckers.
              Thanks

Transfer case and Haldex stay with the car. The turbo should have room to come out with the engine, if you disconnect the flex/down pipe.

Good choice on replacing the motor. Even if all the main and rod bearings were okay, there will be metal shards everywhere (oil ways too) inside the engine. My guess is that the rod going through the block was not the first problem to occur. It would be interesting to pull the old motor apart and see what did happen.

I have decided to go with the piston and patch,
                      we will see what happens.
Used engines available right now were a little iffy.
can always put a new engine in later.
will let you know how it works out.
