It is getting close to time to replace the timing belt on Mary's '04 V70. Are the tensioner and idler replace every time or every other time items ?

BTW, the tensioner ( 30638277 ) appears to be no longer available.

    Tensioner and belt have the same life span. The tensioner must have been superseded at Volvo, but I cannot find a reference to the new part number. FCP and others still have them:

    The popular method seems to be tensioner and idler get replaced every time and the water pump every other time.

    Places like FCP often sell a "kit" that includes belt, tensioner, and idler. It's also a good time to replace the accessary belt and its tensioner, if needed.
