2003 S40 Turbo - Coolant Fan doesn't shut off S40-V40

This may be related to another recent post, maybe not. I recently had the top hose crack and I replaced it. Now the fan that cools the radiator won't shut off even after the engine is shut down, I have disconnected the battery to stop it.

Ideas? Is it possible not enough coolant is in the radiator after loss of coolant and tripping a sensor?

When the old hose was off, the inlet into the radiator had coolant brimming right at the opening. I filled the expansion tank and I have run the engine for a couple of minutes but no longer.

Any insights appreciated. Be gentle. LOL!

Thanks, Doug

If you only ran the engine a few minutes after topping off the coolant, there may be air in the system. You need to run the engine long enough for the thermostat to open and at that time you can squeeze the large hose and 'burp' the air out.

Rather than disconnecting the battery, you could just disconnect a fuse.

Thank you, Klaus. I was thinking that, but how do you burp the large hose? That is the top hose and goes to the expansion tank and down to the radiator, is it not?

I am a big believer in keeping cars for a long time.

      Thanks,

      D

To 'burp' the system, just squeeze the large hose repeatedly. You will see the bubbles come out of the overflow bottle.

Of course, you may have a failing engine fan module if the fan comes on at engine start and will not turn off.
