Mystery clunk (93 850) 850 1993

I have an annoying clunk that appears when I'm driving on rough roads lately.

I first noticed it months after I changed the steering rack. So I thought maybe the sub frame was bolts were not tightened enough, and checked them. They seemed a little loose, but nothing bad. Tightened them anyways...clunk seemed to go away.

But it returned. At first I thought maybe it was the rear shocks, so I replaced them at the mounts. No change. Thinking it might be the transmission torque mount, I replaced it (it's the original, 220K) and it actually made it more worse.

It's mostly evident in a case of left/right/up/down displacement of the tires. As in, when one tire is higher than other or uneven pavement. It really is obvious when driving onto a driveway that has a lip. And now after replacing the TTM, if I drive 10-15 mph and move the steering wheel left and right quickly, it makes the noise.

But it is also uncommon in how often and when it occurs.

The front shocks are relatively new (under 40K) but I think the spring seat/mounts might be suspect. I don't know if that is the issue though.

I have engine mounts to replace, so maybe it could be that too.
