Cracks developing in leather steering wheel - What to do? V70-XC70 2009

Hello All,

I have a 1999 V70 XC with 180,000 miles and the leather covered steering wheel is starting to develop cracks in the surface of the steering wheel. It hasn’t started to flake yet, just noticeable cracks. I do put Lexol cleaner (but not the conditioner) on a regular basis. Years ago, I used to put the conditioner on the surface of the steering wheel and it caused it to become sticky to the touch, like something was oozing out of leather. Thankfully, the steering wheel was replaced under warranty. But because of that experience, I only applied the Lexol cleaner to the leather steering wheel. It cleans and seems to add moisture back to the leather without causing it to become sticky again.

To be realistic, after 18 years and 180,000 miles, it should not come as a surprise that these cracks are developing. Yet, I would welcome any suggestions as to what to do with these cracks. I don’t plan on replacing the steering wheel. Is there any product people can recommend to help preserve the leather steering wheel? Or perhaps there is a wheel cover that can be recommended. Personally, I’m not crazy about wheel covers, but I will keep an open mind. Thank you to all who respond.

Hugh

Not that cheap at $55 + 6.75 shipping:

But it is real leather. The chart has different specs for the 850 Vs the V70, I didn't know there was a difference. Full perforation for $6.50.
