The dashboard lights on my V70 (1998) are out. I am wondering if a faulty dimmer switch--the dimmer is not secure in its slot--might be the cause of this. Thoughts/suggestions?

Your supposition is correct, find a new dimmer switch in a junk yard. Easy to R&R.
