2008 XC70 Transmission Fluid Change V70-XC70 2008

looking to see if anyone has done a transmission fluid change on a 2008 Volvo xc70 or newer and the process to do it?
Also wondering if I can extract out the tranny fluid from the top fill hole with an oil extracting device versus putting the car up on ramps and opening everything from below. This way I'm doing a partial flush and repeat process maybe a month down the line.

Does your car still have a dipstick? If not, it cannot be refilled while on ramps. The entire car must be level.

Using a pump and measuring the ATF and refilling from the pump hole is possible. But the TCM should be told that the ATF is new.

Klaus and community, our 2005 XC 70 has 173k on it. Is that of a mileage where it best not to do any extraction and change. I would like to replace some of the fluid via measured drain and replace with equal qty of fluid.

Anyone have any bad experiences with that kind of mileage one the AsienWarner 55-51SN tranny?

Any and all help is greatly appreciated, always!

JK

I would not hesitate to do a drain and fill with new fluid, regardless of mileage.

For the best results, let the engine/tranny rest overnight. A lot of fluid will drain into the sump. Check and mark the dipstick after jacking up the front end. a sharp edge to create a minuscule mark on the plastic dip stick will work.

Then dump/measure the old fluid. Put the same amount back in. Wait 5 minutes for the dipstick tube to dry a little and measure the level - it should match the mark as before.

Lower the car, start the engine and go for a 5 minute drive. Check for leaks, check the level while the engine is running and hot.

Thank your car for its service and do it again in 6 months or a year.

Klaus, The trans on this XC70 is closed. No dipstick. Just a fix factory fill cap. And a drain plug.
So regarding measures - things get a bit more tricky.

For the dipsticklesss transmissions:

The car must be LEVEL. You need to find a shop, unless you have a lift.

There is not dipstick with this transmission.
What do I need to tell the tcm unit that the fluid has been changed out?

The same reason you need to tell the ECM that the oil has been changed, no message to tell you that the fluid is dirty and needs service.

There is a check mark in VIDA/dice for this.

Is this VIDA/dice software that I can load onto a laptop? I see a 2014 version online for free. Is there any special hardware I need to connect with?
Will I have to do this with changing out the axle fluids and the AOC fluids as well?

The 2014 version should be just fine. There is no update for the rear diff, but there might be for the AOC.

Long learning curve...

A couple of people tell me that I need to get a VIDA/dice unit with software.
Software alone won't work with just a laptop supposedly.
If I get one of these units do I have to pay a service fee to use it?
And will it work with windows 10 laptop?

What? Of course you need a plug in for the car and 12V for the PC. Look around for a nice version that works with W10. It supposedly works with IE8-10 and Chrome.
