P1057/P0758 with flashing arrow light and CEL V70-XC70 1999

Well, purely emotional attachment doesn't serve me well...

Background: V70 base model with ~140K on the clock. it's my 3rd car and has been rarely driven in last couple of years (<300 miles per year).

All of sudden I got the flashing arrow light and CEL with codes of P1057 and P0758. The car seemed stuck in 3rd gear that it lacks power when accelerated from still. I didn't get much very useful info on these 2 error codes. Is it a done deal with Solenoid B fault? If yes, should it be a thousand $ job to replace it inside tranny?

It is due for an annual inspection. Timing is great. :-(

I feel too old to working on my car. It is very nice car. If anyone is interested in DIY, we can talk.

Thanks a lot for your input.

Paul

Check the solenoid wiring and ATF level first. Wiring is hard to get to.

    Replacement of the solenoid:

    https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=47779

    Possible causes

    Low transmission fluid level
    Dirty transmission fluid
    Faulty shift solenoid 'B' valve
Shift solenoid 'B' valve harness or connectors
Shift solenoid 'B' valve circuit is open or shorted

I believe the P1057 is just the TCM telling the ECM to turn on the CEL.

That you don't drive the car much could have caused the solenoid to become clogged with sludge.

If you drive the car, down shift to low when leaving a stopped position, then shift up yourself to lessen the wear on the bands.

It might be possible to resurrect the tranny by using Mobil1 ATF, but that is also a $100 flush and lots of driving.

      Hi Klaus,
Thanks a lot for the detailed writeup. Appreciate your help.

Transmission fluid seemed to be Ok. It was flushed with Mobil 1 ATF a few years back. I am going to check others.

BTW, does this 1999 V70 use a same tranny as 850? Anyway, this is a bigger job than I can handle.

      Thanks again,
      Puhong

Same as the 850's. The 5 speed tranny didn't come out until 2001.

Yep, it is a bear of a job. I just hope that mice didn't chew on the wiring :)

          Thanks, Klaus.

I hope not. But it is almost turkey time so you never know. :)

          Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
